"Monografia zawiera wyniki badań poświęconych określeniu wrażliwości osobowego transportu drogowego w Polsce poprzez identyfikację charakteru i skali zmian dostępności transportowej oraz zmian obciążenia sieci osobowym ruchem drogowym w sytuacji powodzi (o różnych prawdopodobieństwach wystąpienia), prowadzonych w ramach projektu o numerze 2018/29/B/HS4/01020, który został sfinansowany przez Narodowe Centrum Nauki. W toku realizacji tak sformułowanego celu głównego opracowania podjęto się osiągnięcia grupy celów szczegółowych o charakterze poznawczym, metodycznym oraz aplikacyjnym. Badania prowadzono głównie na podstawie wtórnych danych dotyczących zasięgów obszarów zagrożonych powodzią w Polsce i ich zagospodarowania oraz sieci drogowej wraz z zagospodarowaniem jej sąsiedztwa. Publikacja może zainteresować badaczy zajmujących się geografią transportu lub - szerzej - geografią społeczno-ekonomiczną i gospodarką przestrzenną. Może być również pomocnym materiałem dla studentów kierunków, które w swoim programie odnoszą się do geografii transportu, dostępności transportowej czy mobilności przestrzennej. Based on ongoing fieldwork in the Akihabara neighborhood of Tokyo, specifically a targeted subproject from 2014 to 2015, this book explores how and to what effect lines are drawn by producers, players and critics of bishōjo games. Focusing on interactions with manga/anime-style characters, these adult computer games often feature explicit sex acts. Noting that the bishōjo, or "cute girl characters," in these games can appear quite young, legal actions have been taken in a number of countries to categorize and prohibit the content as child abuse material. In response to the risk of manga/anime images encouraging underage sexualization, lawmakers are moved to regulate them in the same way as photographs or film; triggered by images, the line between fiction and reality is erased, or redrawn to collapse forms together. While Japanese politicians continue to debate a similar course, sustained engagement with bishōjo game producers, players and critics sheds light on alternative movement. Manga/anime-style characters trigger an affective response in interactions with their creators and users, who draw and negotiate lines between fiction and reality. Interacting with characters and one another, bishōjo gamers draw lines between what is fictional and what is "real," even as the characters are real in their own right and relations with them are extended beyond games; some even see the characters as significant others and refer to them using intimate terms of commitment such as "my wife." This book argues for understanding the everyday practice of insisting on lines, or drawing a line between humans and nonhumans and orienting oneself toward the drawn lines of the latter, as demonstrating an emergent form of ethics. Occurring individually and socially in both private and public spaces, the response to fictional characters not only discourages harming human beings, but also supports life in more-than-human worlds. For many in contemporary Japan and beyond, interactions and relations with fictional and real others are nothing short of lifelines.

Waiting is an inescapable part of life in modern societies. We all wait, albeit differently and for different reasons. Waiting is a particular experience of time, shaped by class, race, and gender. In modern societies, time is associated with success and money. It can be counted, saved, spent, lost, wasted or invested. Hence waiting symbolizes waste, emptiness, and uselessness. What does it mean to wait for a long period of time? How do people narrate their waiting? "In recent years classical music has become a test case for debates over the future of culture. As times have changed, the value traditionally placed on this music has been challenged on social rather than aesthetic grounds. Lovers of classical music have been asked how its privileged history can be reconciled with growing demands for social justice and social inclusiveness. They have been asked how the music's standing as one of the great accomplishments of the West can be reconciled with the many injustices on which those accomplishments in part depended. How can the future of classical music escape the darker shadows of its past? 'Classical Music in a Changing World: Crisis and Vital Signs' addresses the crisis provoked by such questions in two complementary ways. Several of the chapters show how the classical music world is already grappling with the crisis, and finding vital signs beyond the borders of the music's traditional European strongholds: in Turkey from Ottoman times to the present, in Colombia, and in a Black American film. Bartel details how surging evangelical conversions and widespread access to credit cards, microfinance programs, and mortgages are changing how millions of Colombians envision a more prosperous future. Yet programs of financialization propel new modes of violence. As prosperity becomes conflated with peace, and debt with devotion, survival only becomes possible through credit and its accompanying forms of indebtedness. A new future is on the horizon, but it will come at a price.
